What scale degree is the note?
Tip
If a note feels "final" or "home," it's probably the tonic.
How to Play
- Use the Settings panel to choose your exercise type and preferences
- Click "Play Exercise" to hear a chord followed by a single note
- Identify which scale degree relative to the chord
- Select your answer from the buttons below
Scale Degrees:
- 1 – Root: The home base — feels complete, grounded, and at rest.
- 2 – 2nd: Gently curious, adds motion and openness to the melody.
- 3 – 3rd: Defines major or minor — emotional heart of the scale.
- 4 – 4th: Yearning and unresolved, reaching outward with emotional pull.
- 5 – 5th: Strong and stable, but wants to return to the root.
- 6 – 6th: Warm, romantic tone — evokes longing or gentle melancholy.
- 7 – 7th: Tense and eager, craving resolution back to the tonic.
Keyboard Shortcuts:
- 1 to 7 - Select notes
- Q - Listen again
- W - Replay chord
- E - Replay note
- Enter or Space - Start new exercise (after submitting)
